In Buccheri in particular are the oldest neviere. buccherese. Here, the first neviere were dug by man into the "girminu" lava rock typical of the buccherese. Even today neviere are indicated by the name of burps (caves), because the first neviere, quite small, and the caves were used to conserve snow uses quite narrow.
The neviere of Buccheri are dug at the beginning of a downward slope to the north. In this side you open the door, which was open when you had to remove the snow. In the inner part of this door above the lintel are two sturdy shelves which support the pole which engages the pulley. The slope gave the opportunity for men to climb the dome of the ice house and download the snow without too much effort. An element was common to all neviere: the fundamental drain water dissolved, which drained the ice house and prevented the leaching of the ice. This conduit was dug to the center of the sole of the base and was on a slope so as to favor the natural outflow.
