Standing Stone (Menhir)/ Stone Row in Powys

Very large standing stone near a more recent enclosure called "The Court".

Update September 2019: This site is now classed as a probable stone single stone row comprising 4 large-sized stones, only one of which is upright. For more information see the Stone Rows of Great Britain's entry for Court Stone Row 1, which includes a description, photographs of the alignment and the individual stones, a plan of the stone row with the hollow cut around the southern-most stone (from a recent survey carried out in August 2018), plus access information.

The standing stone, plus the three nearby recumbent stones, are also recorded as Coflein NPRN 403126 (Court Standing Stone).

It is unlikely that this has been formed by animal poaching and is much more likely to have been the result of deliberate exposure of the lower parts of this rock when the row was being built. The same happened at Carreg Llwyd where the southern stone had also been exposed. The most pl...
