Located in a desolate portion of Bodmin Moor with Rough Tor as a dramatic backdrop, this is a very large stone circle, in keeping with the tradition of other circles in the region (e.g., Stannon, Goodaver, the Hurlers, Leaze, the Stripple Stones, the Trippet Stones). Although the 70+ stones, of which about 40 remain standing, are not impressive in appearance, they are embedded deeply in peat. When originally erected, they would have appeared impressive. It is a flattened circle, 46.2m (151 feet) NW-SE by 43.3m (142 feet). Half-way between this circle and Stannon is a ruined circle at SX132794.
Access: A new road now allows access to within 400m of the circle
from a road 2km north-east of St Breward, starting from SX109784. This road is not on the
OS map, is private, and I was told by a local farmer the owner does not like people using
it. He was away when I visited luckily!
