Whale Rock
Whale Rock submitted by kurgan : Whale Rock Zoomorph. This large whale like rock near the village of Rangebar 130 km south of Baku has had its head enhanced to show a mouth and eye. Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature in Azerbaijan

This large whale like rock near the village of Rangebar 130 km south of Baku has had its head enhanced to show a mouth and eye. It is around 140m long and makes use of a tilted geological limestone layer that is over a metre thick. A settlement is nearby with rock shelter, stone circle and graves nearby. The rock acts as an excellent landmark for ancient people navigating in the region when sea level was higher. The site has not been archaeologically studied.

hi the Lat, Long location posted here(Kurdamir region near village of Chol Arab - is possibly wrong) is at least 113-120 km away from the village of Rangbar. Rangbar village is located in the Hajiqabul area of Azerbaijan. I have checked the google earth pro location listed here with at least 5 different timings, no rocks in the vicinity.
Rangbar in the Hasjiqabul region is most probably correct area due to its rocky ragged geology. Kurdemir location listed here is farmland, no rocks.
Would you be so kind Alexhunter to double check the location?
I will ask my friends in the country to look at this photos and possibly locate it as well as long as we know where the photos were taken?
