Possible long barrow (although unlikely), site of celtic camp of catuvellauni, and ancient battle site. However English Heritage say the mound it is a Medieval pillow mound (used for rabbit farming)
The Coney Warren is an isolated earthwork, and, although there are signs and records of a considerable amount of gravel digging having been carried out on Stanmore Common in the past, it is some distance from these, and appears to be on an undisturbed part of the common".
TQ 1587 9381. On Stanmore Common, on a gentle slope in the angle formed by the confluence of two small streams, there is a pillow mound. It is oblong on plan measuring 44 m. in length, 9 m. in width and 0.5 m. in height above ground level. A ditch, 0.2 m. in depth, surrounds it on all sides, except to the N. where it is nearly filled in. Good condition: AM Survey carried out.
