Between the Monuments project at Avebury  Popular
Description: Ever wondered who built the monuments? Where they lived? What were they doing when they weren’t building henges and putting up stones? Well so did we and that’s why we created the Between the Monuments Project – a collaborative research project between the University of Southampton (Dr Josh Pollard), University of Leicester (Dr Mark Gillings), Allen Environmental Archaeology (Dr Mike Allen) and the National Trust (Dr Ros Cleal & Dr Nick Snashall). The great prehistoric ceremonial monuments of the Avebury World Heritage Site have captured the public imagination and been the focus of antiquarian and archaeological investigation for over three centuries. But we know surprisingly little about the daily lives of the people who created and used these awe inspiring places. Visitors often ask, ‘Where and how did the people who built these monuments live?’ At the moment we don’t know the answer. The Between the Monuments project has been created to try to remedy this. We are looking at existing archives from episodes of unpublished surface collection, excavation and chance discovery, and carrying out a programme of targeted fieldwork to try to answer this question.

Ancient Markawasi Stone Forest - Peru  Popular
Description: Remnants of a Vanished Civilization? The Markawasi plateau mapped and written about in the 1950's by Peruvian explorer and philosopher, Dr. Daniel Ruzo, is squarely attributed to the field of forbidden archaeology. Legendary for its gigantic anthropomorphic and zoomorphic stones dating back thousands of years before the Great Flood, the plateau sits at an altitude of over 12,000 feet above sea level, reached by a trek on foot or horseback along a steep path from the tiny village of San Pedro, located on the western Andean ridge of Peru. Known to Andean shamans as a place "beyond the veil of time," legends of mysterious anomalous phenomenon are not uncommon to this ethereal landscape. Surrounded by hundreds of sculptures at a towering twenty-five meters high, with fourteen anthropomorphic figures of four different races, "The “Monument to Humanity,” is the most important sculptured work that exists on the earth today!” - Dr. Daniel Ruzo. Prehistoric Postcards  Popular
Description: In 2008 I bought an old postcard album that contained a number of cards depicting French Menhirs and Dolmen. I became fascinated by these little cards. Their stories of landscapes peopled by giants and druids, devils and witches. This sparked a brief but intense obsession which saw me collecting cards from car boot sales and online auction sites, rarely ever paying more than a pound for a card. My obsession didn’t last long, a couple of years at most, but during which time I managed to collect a couple of hundred cards. I own physical copies of all the cards pictured and have previously posted a number of these cards on various websites but have now decided to put them all in one place.

Friends of St Nectan's Glen  Popular
Description: Saint Nectan's Glen is an area of woodland in Trethevy near Tintagel, north Cornwall stretching for around one mile along both banks of the Trevillet River. The Glen's most prominent feature is Saint Nectan's Kieve, a spectacular sixty foot waterfall. It is spectacular and we believe it should be preserved for future generations in it's pristine state and we are in the process now of making an offer thanks to one major investor to the Charity, as we're concerned about the future of this sacred site to keep it as a sacred place of pilgrimage for all to enjoy.

England's Rock Art  Popular
Description: Amongst the outcrops and boulders of northern England keen eyes may spot an array of mysterious symbols carved into the rock surfaces. These curious marks vary from simple, circular hollows known as 'cups' to more complex patterns with cups, rings, and intertwining grooves. Many are in spectacular, elevated locations with extensive views but some are also found on monuments such as standing stones and stone circles, or within burial mounds. The carvings were made by Neolithic and Early Bronze Age people between 3500 and 6000 years ago. The original meaning of the symbols is now lost but they provide a unique personal link with our prehistoric ancestors.

Save the Holy Headland, Penzance  Popular
Description: Stop the Destruction of the Sacred Heart of Penzance! The plan now is to build a combined passenger and freight ferry terminal to service the Isles of Scilly, along with another car park and numerous buildings and warehouses. The present Lighthouse pier will be extended, and the beach and rocky headland will be obliterated in the name of so-called "modern progress". So in the 1950s one side of the historic port was ruined, and now in 2008, the proposal is to completely obliterate the other side of the historic harbour and docks at Penzance.

Merrymet Magazine and Northern Pagan Archive  Popular
Description: The NPA was founded in the early months of 2002 to fulfil the following objectives.

* The creation of a library and archive of books, articles, photo/video material and cuttings relating to matters of Paganism in all its forms from around the world. These collections to be uncensored, meaning that the subject matter held will cover the whole spectrum of publications from the sensationalist to the deeply learned. Thus providing an ever expanding body of research material on all aspects and levels for the seeker of information.

* The formation of a museum and exhibition of world wide Paganism and Witchcraft. This to be formed in such a way as to show the truth in an unbiased, lively and educational way about a subject that has throughout history been shrouded by a cloak of mystery, misconceptions & lies.

* The opening of a retail section supplying goods relating to, or required by Pagans. It is intended that it should also provide an outlet for products manufactured by Pagans by displaying and stocking their wares on their behalf. thus helping them to reach a wider market.

* The ultimate goal is that all of the above should be housed in a dedicated building by the end of the summer of 2005, and that this building should also provide space for meetings, lectures and classes held by any Pagan group or body wishing to do so. This building to be located in West Yorkshire which is in easier reach of most of the population than the usual southern locations.

The NPA is entirely run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Any funds raised through the course of any of its activities are used in their entirety to maintain the operation and development of the various sections within the NPA as a whole. The NPA is totally independent and is not linked in any way to any other Pagan organisation or business venture.

Stans Beckensall's Top of the Rocks  Popular
Description: Stan Beckensall is a retired head teacher who has a passion for local heritage. In the 1970s, he developed an interest in rock art and since then he has devoted much of his time to finding and recording prehistoric carvings, particularly in Northumberland, but also in County Durham, Cumbria and Scotland. His numerous publications testify to the extent of his enthusiasm and, for many years, these were the only available material on rock art in England. His fieldwork has produced an immense archive of notes, drawings and photographs, and these formed the basis for the Beckensall Archive of Northumberland Rock Art. In these short clips you can here Stan talk about some of his favourite rock art panels. Click on each link on the page to hear the audio.
