Description
ST 512 385 A natural outcrop of 'Tor Burr' or 'eggstone', an egg shaped rock formed from iron deposits, the softer rock round has eroded away. It is covered in carvings of letters, symbols and runes. The may trees and elder trees round it have ribbons etc tied to them. There is another eggstone in the grounds of the Abbey that has had a socket cut in it, possibly for a stone cross.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the Eggstone? Which side of the Tor? I sadly missed it last year but would love to go there when I return in July.

It's on the other side of the Tor on the South side.There are trees half way up the Tor.

And what do you consider "the other side of the Tor"? The steep stair up or the long slope?

Is the South on the steep site? And then on the bottom going right along the hill? (at least it looks like the bushes are there on Google)

Just an idea Rovianne.. The sun's position is 'South' at noon, so if you're up on the summit of the Tor at mid-day on a sunny day, look at the position of the sun, then walk towards it down the slope. It's obviously shaded by those bushes, unless they've been cut down since. Or take a compass?

Did some browsing on Google Earth and found a spot that I thought would be the Eggstone. And this was confirmed by a friend, who's coming on our trip in July. So I will definitaly visit it. Thanks again
