St Meilig’s Well

St Meilig’s Well submitted by AJHL on 30th Oct 2024. St Meilig’s Well. Originally thought to be a pagan site, this was later Christianised and the broken capstone bears the inscription “Proverbs XII 1903 JC”
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: To find this well you take the turning marked “mill cottages” off the A438. Carry on up this road. St Meilig’s church will be on your right over a small bridge over a stream. Carry on up “mill cottages” a bit past a few houses and you will see a gap between the houses to the left (West) going across a large open field. Go through the kissing gate, through the next gate (or over the stile) and through a further gate, then start veering diagonally upwards to the right across the field up the slope to the point of the woodland (this is the lower part of Bryn Yr Hydd Common). Here you will see a metal gate with a footpath sign. Go through this and follow the path for a bit until you see the well on the right (upslope) of the path. The path is uneven and slippery and there are some steep drops off to the left. The well is a bit more in to the wood on the marked path than where the symbol appears on the interactive map.

The Walk Well

The Walk Well submitted by AJHL on 22nd Sep 2023. The sign is a bit misleading as the walk well is actually located down the Bailey path with the river on your right and then down the bottom of the very steep river bank.
