Grosser Helmersberg
Date Added: 15th Mar 2011
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 18th Oct 2010

Grosser Helmersberg submitted by Andreas on 18th Oct 2010. The barrow a few years ago.
(photo from an information-panel at its smaller namesake)
The barrow's height is still about 3,25 m,
and the diameter about 28 m.
It's also known as Hermannsberg (= "Hermann's Mountain").
But who is/was Hermann? Possibly Arminius?
Or a saxon duke from the Billung-dynasty?
A local farmer?
Another candidate?
Without knowing a related legend everything is pure speculation.

Wanna Huegelgrab 6

Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 6th Oct 2010

Wanna Huegelgrab 6 submitted by Andreas on 6th Oct 2010. Distant view, approximately from SouthSouthwest, to the overgrown barrow.
The meadow between the road (Postweg) and the barrow usually is frequented by model airplanes, with the result that my visit almost caused a panic among their pilots.
Especially the local groundsman was (loudly) concerned about my health, shouting something about danger and past accidents.
But obviously the missiles have missed me ...

Wanna Gravenberg
Date Added: 8th Oct 2010
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 6th Oct 2010

Wanna Gravenberg submitted by Andreas on 6th Oct 2010. The overgrown barrow seen from the Southeast.
According to a local legend it's said that a Graf (= Count or Earl) von Süderleda was burried in the barrow.
However the barrow's name (probably meaning Gräberberg = "Graves Mountain") seems to be older than the legend. I suppose the name actually relates to the large urn cemetery around the barrow.
