Castle Ring was actually recommended to me by a colleague at work who does not know of my stones / pre-history interest; she grew up in the Cannock area, and given we were making a trip to Stafford anyway, I'd heard that Cannock Chase was supposed to quite nice. The stones are just visible from the footpath, and from there access is down a slight dip and up a bank to the field boundary wall where the stones are placed.

Log Text: There has been some clearing of the trees between the footpath and the field in which the mound lies so viewing from the field boundary is now very good.
Historic England record number 1006103 (retrieved December 2022) states-
The monument includes an artificial mound situated on a natural hill approximately 1km to the west of the River Trent. The circular mound measures approximately 60m in diameter and appears to be situated on top of what may be a natural feature. The precise function and date of the monument has not been confirmed. Quarrying appears to have taken place within the monument.
