Kathu Pan submitted by Andy B on 22nd Nov 2012. Examples of experimental hafted points. Points were hafted to wooden dowels using Acacia resin and sinew and then thrust into a springbok carcass target using a calibrated crossbow. The Kathu Pan 1 archaeological points show a similar pattern of edge damage to these experimental points.

Site Type: Cave or Rock Shelter
Country: Somalia
Visited: Yes on 13th May 2011

Laas Gaal submitted by Andy B on 13th May 2011. Alcove in Laas Geel, near Hargeysa, Somaliland/Somalia, where Neolithic cave paintings have been found. The local nomads used this alcove as a shelter when it rained and never paid much attention to the paintings. The site is now guarded by the local villagers who view these paintings as both national treasures and tourist attractions.

Knock Stone Circle
Date Added: 4th Apr 2012
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc
Country: Scotland (West Lothian)
Visited: Yes on 12th Mar 2011

Knock Stone Circle submitted by Andy B on 12th Mar 2011. The stones themselves are ancient, and with their lichen-covered appearance seem to have been here in this archaeology-rich countryside since time immemorial. But appearances are deceptive. These two concentric cicles of standing stones (comprising 50 massive stones in all, with one horizontal stone supported on three vertical ones at the centre of the circles) were erected here, not by neolithic ancestors of ours, but as recently as 1998 by the son of a local farmer who built it as a 50th birth...

An Dun (Loch Ardbhair) submitted by Creative Commons on 18th Apr 2010. Site in Sutherland Scotland
An Dun broch, Loch Ardbhair, is best visited at Low Tide. It is connected to the mainland by an interesting dry stane dyke. The original access to the inside of the broch faces south. The shallow waters are teeming with mussels. Lovely spot.
