Islesburgh
Date Added: 4th Apr 2012
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: Scotland (Shetland)
Visited: Yes on 13th Jul 2011

Islesburgh submitted by Andy B on 13th Jul 2011. Further up the hillside another prehistoric enclosure, this one circular, affords a fuller view of the water beyond Mavis Grind. The function of this space is not clear, perhaps it is just an additional area of arable cultivation established after the D-shaped enclosure. On the other hand perhaps an enclosure that was more completely associated with life and even less with death was desirable. A lambing enclosure perhaps?
