Site Type: Rock Outcrop
Country: Channel Islands and Isle of Man (Jersey)
Visited: Yes on 18th Jul 2012

Le Pinacle submitted by Andy B on 18th Jul 2012. Jersey must be one of the most concentrated places in Europe for prehistoric sites - I remember, many years ago - around 1951/2, climbing down to the "Pinacle Rock" with a friend who was the grandson of Herbert John Baal, who was the first archivist of those caves. I made this sketch on the way down.

A tracing of an image found at the El Zotz archaeological site in Guatemala depicts the Maya sun god. “The stuccos provide unprecedented insight into how the Maya conceived of the heavens,” said archaeologist Stephen Houston, “how they thought of the sun, and how the sun itself would have been grafted onto the identity of kings and the dynasties that would follow them.”
