Realising I was on the wrong side of the loch, and the other side was very marshy, I took this above telephoto shot of the row and gave up. Unless you are very dedicated, stick to the more impressive Hill O' Many Stanes nearby.

Wayland's Smithy submitted by dodomad on 14th Aug 2007. Wayland Smithy, Oxfordshire. A Neolithic chambered long barrow 2km from the Uffington White Horse. The remains of 14 people, three of whom were probably killed by arrowshots, were discovered in 1962-3, but precise dating is now able to narrow the date of their burials to within a decade or so, between 3590 and 3560BC. This opens up the possibility that these people could have died together as a result of a massacre, possibly in a scramble for land or a cattle raid. Image copyright English Herita...

Reconstruction drawings showing the different ways Neolithic communities closed their burial sites, at Ascott-under-Wychwood, the chamber was walled up; at Hazleton offerings were made; at Fussell's Lodge the wooden mortuary chamber was burnt and a large barrow constructed; and in West Kennet, people simply stopped placing corpses in the tomb. Harters Hill excavation - The remains of a late Bronze Age ritual alignment of oak piles and small stakes surrounded by masses of worked wood, that was built in a wetland in 1076 BC. Desiccation has caused the overlying peat deposits to oxidise, shrink and waste away until the ground surface has reached the tops of the oak piles. Now the wooden structure itself is beginning to be damaged by desiccation. Photo copyright Somerset County Council.
