Harrow Hill enclosure submitted by Andy B on 3rd Sep 2011. Remains of a Settlement. The nettles are inside a circle of earthworks beside the bridleway and footpath junction. Harrow Hill and Blackpatch Hill were mined for flint during Neolithic times and the former has a Bronze Age settlement on its peak. Harters Hill excavation - The remains of a late Bronze Age ritual alignment of oak piles and small stakes surrounded by masses of worked wood, that was built in a wetland in 1076 BC. Desiccation has caused the overlying peat deposits to oxidise, shrink and waste away until the ground surface has reached the tops of the oak piles. Now the wooden structure itself is beginning to be damaged by desiccation. Photo copyright Somerset County Council.

Reconstruction drawings showing the different ways Neolithic communities closed their burial sites, at Ascott-under-Wychwood, the chamber was walled up; at Hazleton offerings were made; at Fussell's Lodge the wooden mortuary chamber was burnt and a large barrow constructed; and in West Kennet, people simply stopped placing corpses in the tomb. Hill of Jonah

Hill of Jonah submitted by Andy B on 14th Feb 2012. The excavation on top of the Hill of Jonah where the prophet, who was swallowed by a whale or fish, is believed by some to have been buried. It uncovered thick stone walls, in the center, believed to belong to a fortress occupied at around the time of the prophet, roughly 3,000 years ago.
