Norman The eight visible mounds of earth in the park were built between 250-950 A.D. by Swift Creek and Weeden Island Indians. American Indians occupied the lands from 350 to 750 A.D. These mounds include Georgia's oldest great temple mound, two burial mounds and four smaller ceremonial mounds. The park's museum is built with part of an excavated mound inside, providing an unusual setting for viewing artifacts and a film about how the mound was built and excavated. ...

The stones themselves are ancient, and with their lichen-covered appearance seem to have been here in this archaeology-rich countryside since time immemorial. But appearances are deceptive. These two concentric cicles of standing stones (comprising 50 massive stones in all, with one horizontal stone supported on three vertical ones at the centre of the circles) were erected here, not by neolithic ancestors of ours, but as recently as 1998 by the son of a local farmer who built it as a 50th birth...

Kliplev Runddysse submitted by holger_rix on 3rd Aug 2010. Burial Chamber. Sat by a stone on the northwest end, a stone in the northern long side, two stones in southern long side. Chamber covered by a very large capstone, 2.20 m long, 1.50 m wide in the middle; thickness 0.55 m. Upper and Inner parallel. The capstone is cleaved into two parts in the middle by a crack which goes in the direction NE-SW. Another small piece splitted, but all three parts are fixed and unshaken in their places. Log Text: Pretty strenuous circular walk, down and up the cliff. The northern path is easier so perhaps take that on the way back. Cave impressive and some of the carvings easily visible
