Bush Barrow submitted by Creative Commons on 17th Feb 2010. "In the 1720s William Stukeley had called it “the bush barrow” after trees planted on the top (though the “county people” knew it as “the green barrow”)"
"This very large bowl barrow in the Normanton Down barrow group, just south of Stonehenge, measures over 40m in diameter and stands today 3m high. It was excavated in 1808 by William Cunnington and Sir Richard Colt Hoare. The primary burial was of a tall, stout, adult man, buried lying on his back. The grave goods placed with h...

Mag's Well (Abinger Forest)
Date Added: 17th Sep 2010
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Surrey)
Visited: Yes on 3rd Mar 2010

Mag's Well (Abinger Forest) submitted by Andy B on 3rd Mar 2010. Hidden in the woods behind Coldharbour is Mag's Well, a healing spring said to ease skin complaints. Being slightly impregnated with sulphate of magnesia, the water has a somewhat sulphurous taste and should not be taken in any significant quantity. The name is probably a corruption of St. Margaret's Well.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Scotland (Midlothian)
Visited: Yes on 13th Mar 2010

Caiy Stane submitted by Andy B on 13th Mar 2010. About 3m high, the Caiy Stane is a broad slab of red sandstone possibly marking a ritual or burial place from Neolithic times. The hilltop where it is sited continued to be used in the Bronze Age, and it may also have been the site of a battle in more recent times, with the stone as a memorial. The reverse face has six, probably prehistoric cup marks, some old graffiti and some more recent spray-painted defacings.

Millstreet Country Park
Date Added: 17th Sep 2010
Site Type: Museum
Country: Ireland (Republic of) (Co. Cork)
Visited: Yes on 19th Mar 2010

Millstreet Country Park submitted by Andy B on 19th Mar 2010. I suppose that Millstreet Country Park should be described as a theme park, its theme being the wildlife, archeology and history of the area. It must be unique in that its entrance is around 390m up a mountain. After you enter, you must drive around 2Km and drop about 180m to reach the visitor centre. The photo shows a recreated crannóg, a prehistoric dwelling on an artificial island, just one of the delights of this wonderful place.
