Moss Farm Stone

Moss Farm Stone submitted by AngieLake on 8th Sep 2008. This is the view of Moss Farm standing stone looking towards a boulder which has been inscribed as a present-day memorial. (Hence the fencing around it.) I wasn't sure if the boulder was brought there recently or always stood in that place, to the NE of the standing stone. (The flat face viewed here is the stone's West face, the other facing East.)

Tormore 2

Tormore 2 submitted by AngieLake on 9th Sep 2008. Going by my sketch on the day, this view is looking towards a gap in the hills to the NE. [Checked this site grid ref on www.danu.co.uk/gallery/info/stones/mosscairn.html. Calling it "Moss Farm Cairn", "grid ref NR 90590 32367", they say that it is: "An excavated cairn circle which lies in a field south of trackway to Machrie Moor just west of Moss Farm." It was definitely between Moss Farm Road Circle and the main Machrie Moor circles.]

Machrie Moor 1. submitted by AngieLake on 11th Sep 2008. Machrie Moor 1. The large leaning stone in the centre of this pic is the one I recorded at N of centre of the circle. Very exciting findings by Burl and other archaeologists that there were once timber circles and a horseshoe setting of wood posts here. June 2002

Dunchraigaig Cairn submitted by AngieLake on 25th Sep 2008. Walked past this one on the way to Ballymeanoch monuments in 2002. Maybe it suffers from lack of interest because of visitors' urge to see the other site?

Barns Farm Dalgety Fife submitted by AngieLake on 25th Sep 2008. This Spey Curragh, displayed at the Coracle Museum in Cenarth in Wales is similar to the type found re-used as a coffin at a site excavated in Fife in 1974, and believed to be Barns Farm, Dalgety. The photo [top] shows the info board with that intriguing information, and the photo bottom, the full-sized coracle on display.

"The stone bowl from the well originally had dolphins carved round the top but they were damaged when the bowl was stolen. On the sides are a snake facing a gryffin, which are not Christian images." (Quote from leaflet in St. Cuby's church.)

Llanbadarn Fawr Celtic Crosses submitted by AngieLake on 9th Nov 2008. The shorter cross, left and the lower section of the tallest cross, showing the figure carved on this face. Both were thought to be pre-Christian standing stones. The large cross is made from granite, possibly from the Llyn Peninsula. Llanbadarn Fawr church was once the mother church of what was then the largest parish in Wales.

Mardon Down N

Site Type: Stone Circle Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 21st Nov 2008

Mardon Down N

Mardon Down N submitted by AngieLake on 21st Nov 2008. Mardon Down Cairn Circle (N) on the lower northern slopes of the ridge, overlooking the rest of Devon. As a guide, Cheriton Bishop, on the A30, would be in the distance here. To access this site, keep going north on a narrower track when by Giant's Grave, instead of following the main ridgeway path. As seen here, the track then heads away diagonally to the right, and rejoins the main ridgeway track, going downhill towards the menhir 'Headless Cross'.
