Chun Quoit submitted by AngieLake on 22nd Oct 2006. A view of the rear of Chun Quoit, showing the exaggerated tilt of the capstone, like a jaunty Frenchman's beret.

Zennor Quoit
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Portal Tomb
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 18th Oct 2006

Zennor Quoit submitted by AngieLake on 18th Oct 2006. One more shot that is slightly different. The Quoit is so enthralling artistically, that even a slight move reveals another great design.
You can see how prolific the bracken was, but I was also delighted to see lots of wild cornflowers growing around its base.

Trencrom
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 18th Oct 2006

Trencrom submitted by AngieLake on 18th Oct 2006. Looking approximately NNW across the plateau of Trencrom Hill towards what could be the Gorsedd rocks of this ancient settlement. It is neatly framed in the dip of the distant hills, and could have marked the Midwinter Solstice sunset.
(The pits of the hut circles in Jim Champion's photo lie across the centre of this view.)

Virtuous Well
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Wales (Monmouthshire)
Visited: Yes on 4th Sep 2006

Virtuous Well submitted by AngieLake on 4th Sep 2006. The Virtuous Well in bottom right-hand corner, showing the position of Trellech church. The gate to the field is behind me here.
The sign reads:"The Virtuous Well.
Once known as St Ann's Well and famous for its cures. It was visited by many pilgrims as late as the seventeenth century. It is said to be four separate springs, three containing iron and each curing a different illness. Its niches held offerings and cups. Stone seats gave rest to the weary traveller."

Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Aug 2006

Metherall Settlement submitted by AngieLake on 23rd Aug 2006. Shall we see this rare sight more often as global warming takes effect? These ancient hut circles are usually under the water of Fernworthy Reservoir. Find them just below the main car park after a very dry spell (such as summer 2006).

Cae'r-hen-Eglwys submitted by AngieLake on 9th Aug 2006. SEM at Cae'r Hen Eglwys stones, giving a sense of scale. I'd been looking forward to seeing these for ages, so thanks a lot Simon! It would be good to explore the field when the undergrowth has died down.

Bachwen
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 24th Jul 2006

Bachwen submitted by AngieLake on 24th Jul 2006. I vowed to visit this site after seeing one of Hamish's earlier pics. I took loads of photos in cloudy conditions, then, just before I was due to leave (about 6.30pm) the sun came out! Cue: a repeat performance and an expensive visit for me, using my non-digital cameras.
This picturesque site is now one of my all-time favourite places, and I was very fortunate to have it all to myself for 2 hrs.

Moel Ty Uchaf
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Denbighshire)
Visited: Yes on 17th Jul 2006

Moel Ty Uchaf submitted by AngieLake on 17th Jul 2006. This is the side nearest the ridge upon which Moel ty Uchaf stands, of the pile of stones I was led to whilst dowsing a ritual movement route at the site. At first glance it appeared to resemble a collapsed cairn or tomb. I came from Moel ty Uchaf's circle, down over the slope in a roughly southerly direction, at an angle towards my left slightly but aiming straight towards it (not having seen it before hand). On the way, there were three separate single anticlockwise movements, at equal dista...

Beuno's Well (Clynnog Fawr)
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 11th Jul 2006

Beuno's Well (Clynnog Fawr) submitted by AngieLake on 11th Jul 2006. St Beuno's Well, or Fynnon Beuno, at Clynnog Fawr. This was once very popular with pilgrims and looked very inviting from the road. (Beware when visiting, as this road is lethal - the traffic whizzes past about an inch from your nose; and, fool that I am, I was there at leaving work time! There are no pavements and it's quite narrow, with no verge. I walked along it trying to catch a glimpse of the dolmen, as well as the well!)
