Gournay-Sur-Aronde
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Ancient Village or Settlement
Country: France (Picardie:Oise (60))
Visited: Yes on 13th Dec 2008

Gournay-Sur-Aronde submitted by AngieLake on 13th Dec 2008. The placement of human and animal remains in the enclosing ditch at Gournay-sur-Aronde. Deposits of weapons were also carefully placed in the ditch.
[Drawing after Jean-Lewis Brunaux].
This comes from Mysteries of the Ancient World, edited by Judith Flanders, (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1998).
Can't help wondering if the ox-burial outside Bryn Celli Ddu is a similar 'Druid' ritual monument.
Maybe King Arthur's Hall was too?

Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes on 2nd Jan 2009

Great Cursus Barrows, Stonehenge submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Jan 2009. I think some people will be shocked by the view of Stonehenge from the Cursus Barrows. The stones are almost hidden behind the buildings and vehicles in the car park.
The site of the mesolithic posts would be at the right here, with the western one behind the toilet block.

Site Type: Early Christian Sculptured Stone
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 3rd Sep 2009

Mayon Farm Cross submitted by AngieLake on 3rd Sep 2009. This is the stile which allows access to the field where the cross lies on the other side of the low bank, centre left. Sennen church tower is visible in the distance, between the stile uprights.
On this evening in May I had followed the footpath around the edge of the field to this stile, and once in the planted field, stepped very carefully between the crop to the low hedge where the cross is situated. You can see where others have done this and worn a slight track, just above the step of ...

Sennen Church
Date Added: 26th Sep 2010
Site Type: Ancient Cross
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 3rd Sep 2009

Sennen Church submitted by AngieLake on 3rd Sep 2009. The large cross near the road in Sennen Churchyard was "moved from the centre of the new cemetery. It earlier served as a footbridge across a small stream north-east of Trevear for some years during the early 19th century, on the route of a very ancient pack-horse road via Chapel Carn Brea and Chapel Euny towards Penzance, but once doubtless stood by the side of the track."
