Trearddur Dolmen

Trearddur Dolmen submitted by AngieLake on 30th Oct 2009. The Trearddur standing stone looked very dominant from this angle, while walking back down the lane from Trefignath. Maybe it was meant to be viewed like this, on some kind of processional route from Trefignath, going south? [It's interesting what you notice when not at the wheel of a car!]

Ty Mawr (Nr Holyhead) submitted by AngieLake on 30th Oct 2009. This shot was taken near Trefignath, while walking back down the lane. In the distance I spied Ty Mawr, and zoomed in to try to capture the poor isolated menhir, surrounded by its 'triffid-like' lamp-posts. [See centre of photo, above new tree planting.]

Mayon Farm Cross

Mayon Farm Cross submitted by AngieLake on 3rd Sep 2009. This is the stile which allows access to the field where the cross lies on the other side of the low bank, centre left. Sennen church tower is visible in the distance, between the stile uprights. On this evening in May I had followed the footpath around the edge of the field to this stile, and once in the planted field, stepped very carefully between the crop to the low hedge where the cross is situated. You can see where others have done this and worn a slight track, just above the step of ...

Sennen Church

Sennen Church submitted by AngieLake on 3rd Sep 2009. The large cross near the road in Sennen Churchyard was "moved from the centre of the new cemetery. It earlier served as a footbridge across a small stream north-east of Trevear for some years during the early 19th century, on the route of a very ancient pack-horse road via Chapel Carn Brea and Chapel Euny towards Penzance, but once doubtless stood by the side of the track." [Excuse quality, but this is an old photocopy from 'Devon's Past - an Aerial View' by Frances Griffith*, which has been tucked away in a file for ages, hence the crease.] *In 2005 she was Devon County Archaeologist. Her description: "The cropmarks here represent the remains of quite a large prehistoric ceremonial structure - some 60m by 70m overall - which would previously have been a prominent feature of the landscape.
