Barry Island Cairns
Date Added: 8th May 2012
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Mid Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 1976. My rating: Condition 1 Ambience 3 Access 4

Barry Island Cairns submitted by sem on 15th Mar 2011. Only the southernmost (rh of the picture) of the five cairns really stands out and this is because of a mound of mortar was placed on top erect a flagpole.
Originally this would have been seen from a great distance and would have been a marvellous "signpost" for Bronze Age seafarers.

Colchester Castle Museum
Date Added: 7th May 2012
Site Type: Museum
Country: England (Essex)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2008. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 5

Colchester Castle Museum submitted by Thorgrim on 7th Jun 2004. The museum is housed in the Norman keep of Colchester Castle which is "the largest keep in existence" (Pevsner). It is considerably larger than the White Tower of London, but most of its facing of septaria and ashlar has been stolen revealing the rubble core with very many Roman bricks. The museum collection is beautifully presented and contains flint tools from the Palaeolithic through to the late Neolithic. One of the "must sees" is the mysterious wooden idol found at Dagenham dating from...

St. Cedd's Well (North Ockendon) submitted by DavidCWoods on 20th Apr 2006. The well is obviously cared for, with a housing produced in a “rustic” fashion – apparently using chimney stacks! It is decorated in a mixture of tile collage and primitive styled painting.
