Merrivale Second Menhir and Cairn submitted by Anne T on 9th Jul 2019. To show the relationship of these monuments with the tall Merrivale Menhir, the recumbent granite pillar is in the foreground, with its pit immediately behind it; the cairn is visible as a low mound behind it (just right of centre) The tall menhir is in the background. The cairn is 5.5m from the menhirs and the granite slab 2m from the cairn. Row 4 runs from the centre to the middle left of the photo; the western stone of row 6 is to the left hand side of the menhir.

He says: "The menhir, 3.1 m high, still stands in its original position, 42 m almost due south from the centre of the stone circle. There is no evidence that the smaller pillar, 2 m long, lying a few meters away ever stood upright, but it was erected in 1895 in the pit alongside, toppling again a few years later. Ménec cromlech submitted by AlexHunger on 20th Dec 2004. The Cromlec de Menec marks the westernmost extent of the Carnac Allignments. It basically starts on the road that separates it from the allignments, goes through a private garden, through the end of the village and ends in a creperie.

Log Text: First visit after 30 years. Its all more slick now with the visitor centre ( which a tually has very little about the stones, their layout etc. I understood more about the cromlechs - semi circular stone circles at the end of the sets of rows - theres some remaining evidence of them. But would be great to have an idea of how they looked.
