Yellowmead

Yellowmead submitted by JeanFry on 3rd Feb 2020. Yellowmead Stone Circle on Yellowmead Down, with Sheeps Tor on the skyline. An unusual Bronze Age monument consisting of four concentric circles. Many of the stones had fallen over hundreds of years and were re-erected when they were discovered. However, some stones were missing, probably used in stone walls by farmers and local inhabitants many years ago.

The Giant's Grave Mardon Down submitted by AngieLake on 21st Nov 2008. Looking approx SE over the "amorphous much-spread mound" [Butler's quote] of the Giant's Grave on Mardon Down's highest point. (If ever a name failed to deliver.....!) The ridgeway track curves around it here, and if you wish to visit the 'Pillared Cairn' [our site page Mardon Down N] to the north, another footpath leads to it just to my left.

Chun Quoit

Chun Quoit submitted by sem on 16th Jun 2005. The capstone and the horizon. There is a theory that dolmens (or quoits as they are known in Cornwall) were not totally covered in earth but the capstones were left uncovered and were a copy of the horizon. I have manipulated the tones in this shot to show this, but no shapes have been altered.

Bosullow Trehyllys Settlement submitted by h_fenton on 17th May 2010. Although it is not much to look at this is a Kite Aerial Photograph of an iron age courtyard house at Bosullow Trehyllys. 10 April 2010 --- Bosullow Trehyllys is a small village of Courtyard Houses, in terms of preservation it is considered to be second only to the nearby ancient village of Chysauster. The biggest difference is that Bosullow Trehyllys remains unexcavated. Today this site is grazed by horses (04/2010).
