Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Argyll)
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 2019

Temple Wood S submitted by funsize on 4th Jun 2007. This is a cracking site. Large cobble mound with slivers of upright slabs and a central cist. Very accessible and one of many impressive sites within a small area of the Kilmartin Valley. This shows the larger cairn, there is a smaller one ringed by trees a stones throw to the south west.

Date Added: 2nd May 2022
Site Type: Cairn
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 2nd May 2022. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 4

The Giant's Grave Mardon Down submitted by AngieLake on 21st Nov 2008. Looking approx SE over the "amorphous much-spread mound" [Butler's quote] of the Giant's Grave on Mardon Down's highest point. (If ever a name failed to deliver.....!)
The ridgeway track curves around it here, and if you wish to visit the 'Pillared Cairn' [our site page Mardon Down N] to the north, another footpath leads to it just to my left.

The Hurlers (C) submitted by Horatio on 24th Jun 2024. This stone I kept coming back to as a lovely lozenge shape and stood out amongst the more usual upright stones. Apart from its reduced size it wouldn't look amiss on West Kennet Avenue.

The Hurlers North submitted by theCaptain on 25th Jan 2014. Possible newly recognised fourth stone circle to the north of the three well known Hurlers circles.
A few stones slightly poke through the turf, with others hidden, and with an "eye of faith" a circle can be made out.

The Hurlers Pipers submitted by JimChampion on 24th Aug 2007. View through the 'goalposts' of the Pipers, neatly framing Stowe's Hill in the distance (home of the Cheesewring natural rock feature and the neolithic enclosure of Stowe's Pound). These two stones stand to the west of the Hurlers stone circles. The dung in the foreground is from the ponies that graze the moor.

The Longstone (Piles Hill) submitted by thecaptain on 7th Aug 2004. This is a view looking to the south, along the full 2km length of the Butterdon Hill stone row. Butterdon Hill with its two large cairns, where the row starts, is on the horizon.
Butterdon Hill Barrow, where the row reaches the top of the ridge and changes direction can also just be made out, midway between the top of the longstone and the left hand cairn.
