Stapelstein submitted by Martin_L on 8th May 2015. From the SE. Photo taken May 2015. The site consists of an eroded round barrow-like structure with what appears to be the remains of a bronze-age (?) stone-cist situated on top of it. Some minor stones visibleat the edges of the barrow. According to historic reports the site has been excavated and damaged in historic times. At least an excavation in 1877 is recorded, but it revealed no grave goods.
What we see today most probably does not represent the original arrangement of the stones. ...

Although not particularly large, it still shines with a very large number of finds, expert staff who are happy to inform you about the exhibits, changing special exhibitions and an in-house shop where you can buy true-to-the-original self-made stone axes etc. from the museum's volunteer staff. It was definitely worth the visit today and I will be happy to come back!
