Log Text: The solar observatory has been reconstructed impressively well. Perhaps not as impressive in terms of monumental dimensions as the ring sanctuary in Pömmelte. But a visit at the winter or summer solstice should definitely be worth the journey.

Log Text: The original of the menhir with the carving is in the Prehistoric State Museum in Halle (Saale). It was used as the capstone of the tomb. A replica can also be found next to the tomb today.

Heringsberg submitted by Martin_L on 1st Jun 2012. The entrance in the SW. The massive chamber originally was covered by a barrow, 70m diameter and 10m high. The barrow is largely removed, but the chamber still partly embedded into remains of it and largely filled with earth. It is of trapezoidal shape, oriented SW-NE. Length is at least 9m, width over 3m at the NE-part. At least the NE-end orthostat is missing. It is hard or impossible to reach the site during growing season. Log Text: Very nice and long hiking trail with many different tumuli and reconstruction work. The information boards are something and have suffered a bit. Still one of the most beautiful archaeological hiking trails that can be found near Hamburg.

The barrow has been used by several generations, and was surrounded by 3 rings of stones. The capstone is not original. The original has been brought to the museum of Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig.

Log Text: The rune stones that stand in the wild around Haithabu are reconstructions. The originals are protected in the Viking Museum in Haithabu. Translated, the text of this one means: "King Sven placed this stone after (in memory of) Skarthe, his follower, who had gone west (England), but now fell near Haithabu."
