Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 10th Mar 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4

Basdahl Sieversberg submitted by CharcoalBurner89 on 10th Mar 2021. The Sieversberg is the highest tumulus in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme).
The name Sieversberg is derived from a local legend according to which a robber named Sievers was buried here centuries ago. According to tradition, he was not allowed to be buried in the Christian cemetery.

Log Text: The tumulus can easily be reached by car from Basdahl. The last 200 meters, however, should be better walked because the road to the tumulus are very bad.

Date Added: 20th Oct 2021
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 19th Oct 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4

Bargloyer Steinkiste submitted by Martin_L on 11th May 2010. The capstone photographed with additional lighting to enhance the visibilty of the more than 60 cup-marks. Nevertheless due to the partly undulating surface of the granite erratic it is hard to show all cup-marks even when using several light sources. Documentation using frottage-technique for example would lead to more accurate results. May 2010

Log Text: From the information board on site:
The oldest complex in this prehistoric burial ground is the stone grave.
According to a report from 1841, the burial chamber, which was already damaged at that time, was called "Steinhaus" - "Stone House" or "Hünenkeller" - "Giant Cellar"; around 1871 it was romantically called "Fürstengruft" - „Prince Crypt“.
Like all similar complexes from this age, the stone monument served as a family crypt around 2500 BC.
All the gaps between the large boulders were wedged with rubble stones and covered with clay on the outside. The whole burial chamber was hidden under a mound of earth. Neolithic grave goods have not been preserved here.
During the archaeological investigation in 1978, one capstone and 5 torn apart, partly damaged carrier stones were still present. A capstone had already been removed around 1920 and used as a war memorial.
The administration of the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) restored the complex based on the excavation findings using the example of other stone graves. The remaining stones were moved together in a new arrangement.

There is more to see here. Among other things a maze. I haven't seen it myself yet. Planning to go there as soon as the snow is gone!
