Country: England (Herefordshire)

Arthur's Stone submitted by AngieLake on 21st Jun 2011. I found that the forecourt of the dolmen was orientated towards this prominent peak to the south. Apparently it is Skirrid Fawr - 'the sacred mountain'.
Maybe its legend went back a very long way?

Pentre Ifan submitted by Horatio on 22nd Jun 2020. A year later and back at Pentre Ifan for the solstice sunset, all on my own some (apart from a 13yr old Jack Russell this time) I Was expecting at least to see one other (person not Jack Russell) at this site for the sunset.
That morning I'd gone to see the sunrise at Gors Fawr stone circle and even left my house in the rain knowing there was zero chance of seeing a sunrise, I definitely was not disappointed, crap weather but I enjoyed being amongst the stones as the solstice sun rose, the cu...

Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Wales (Anglesey)

Lligwy Burial Chamber submitted by Jimwithnoname on 8th Sep 2011. Amazing dolmen and very unnerving sat underneath the 25 ton capstone. It's perched on very little it seems on the one side. The warden approached us as we sat eating at the site. He asked if we were thinking of stopping the night, which we were, but as he said. that's a no no. We respected him and moved on after our picnic. He was quite pleasant and only doing his job. Many people wild camp as he said, and set fire to crops or drive through hedges!

Hambledon Hill hillfort submitted by JimChampion on 10th Jan 2005. December 2002. Looking towards the south at the impressive west-facing flank of Hambledon hill. The ramparts are clearly visible in this picture, and the grazing sheep give a sense of scale. The ramparts in the foreground drop away sharply - presumably as the result of a landslip.

Marden Henge
Date Added: 8th Apr 2019
Site Type: Henge
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2030. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 4

Marden Henge submitted by Jansold on 24th Jul 2015. View of excavations during summer 2015.
Marden Henge is the biggest henge in England but because it did not have a stone circle associated with it, has tended to be overlooked. A huge mound, like a smaller version of Silbury Hill, named Hatfield Barrow, once existed within the henge, but it was levelled in the 19th C.
Foundations have been excavated within the henge that could have been a Neolithic sauna, containing a sunken hearth that would have given out intense heat.
