Log Text: Mound overgrown by ferns so probably best to visit in the winter. A path leads to the top of the mound which is taller and wider than you think. There is an interpretation board and a sign on the footpath that directs you to the barrow. It's in a clearing and the woodland is a pleasant area to have a walk. If you happen to be in the area go have a look and take it in as part of an interesting walk through old woodland filled with wildlife. Ashenbank wood, where the barrow is owned by the Woodland trust and there is a small carpark.

The Avenue

Site Type: Ancient Trackway Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 4

The Avenue

The Avenue submitted by TimPrevett on 10th Oct 2006. Looking NE along the last stretch of The Avenue. I've appended, albeit somewhat crudely, some lines to show the course of the outside of the parallel banks, and their *approximate* direction swinging off to the east. The tan line in the distance shows the line of some of the Cursus, which predates the Avenue considerably.

Log Text: Better to book private access to Stonehenge. It cost's a bit more but you do get to walk within the circle and get a better idea of the monument. Private access is available throughout most of the year and must be booked in advance from English Heritage. Access is before the monument is open and after it is closed.
