Roque Bentaiga

Roque Bentaiga submitted by CoppellaiaMatta on 16th Jan 2025. Pic taken from the Almogarén on Roque Bentayga, looking back at the top of the Roque. It's a beautiful spot, it filled me with a long la...

Graylingwell Earthwork

Graylingwell Earthwork submitted by CoppellaiaMatta on 12th Feb 2025. New playing fields are being built in the park, they reach the edges of the iron age dyke but don't overrun it. I think it would be nice to have some information points to help people understand the landscape they are moving in, as part of the redevelopment.

Piraeus Lion

Piraeus Lion submitted by Flickr on 10th Jan 2014. There is a replica of the piraeus lion in historiska museet, stockholm, where the runes are coloured. after i saw that copy, of course i wanted to see the real statue. the runes are graffity from vikings who went to greece (actually, quite many went to greece, at least, that's what swedish rune stones tell us). on this site, a typical viking age serpent with a body of runes can be seen. on the other side, there are some straight lines of runes inscriptions: "§a ... these runes. they ... ...

The helmet rim is decorated with a hatched and punched frieze. A pair of connectors were riveted to either side for a leather chin strap to secure the helmet in place. Openwork Crests. These two openwork crests are unique. They were attached to the helmet by means of five mounts, creating a headdress unlike anything discovered previously. The crescent-sha...

Log Text: A pleasant city walk. Very little remains of the actual Roman walls, as the structure has collapsed and has been rebuilt through the centuries, but it gives a pretty good idea of what the old Noviomagus would have looked like in terms of size, road network, gates and so on.
