Sakkara Pyramid submitted by AlexHunger on 26th Mar 2006. The world's first large stone structure built under Pharao Djoser founder of the 3rd Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.
Under the Architect Imhotep, the original small mastaba was expanded in all directions to a height of 62 Meters, a length of 123 Meters and a width of 107 Meters. The stone blocks are much smaller than those of the later pyramids.
The pyramid had a casing eventually, though this is now lost.

Sneferu's Bent Pyramid submitted by AlexHunger on 26th Mar 2006. Sneferu's second attempt at building a proper pyramid. Half way through construction, he changed the angle from 54 degrees to 43 degrees. It was first believed this was to avoid having the casing collapse like at Meidum, but now it is thought the weight of the material was causing cracks in the chambers. The reduced angle reduced the amount of material piling up on top. There are entrances to the North and to the West for the two corbelled chambers.
