Swarth Fell submitted by Andy B on 13th Jun 2011. Stone Circle
Above Swarth fell. The circle had proved elusive on previous visits but this appears to be the one marked on the maps.

The Cockpit submitted by postman on 25th Oct 2012. An early morning hauling of stepladders affords an unusually good photo of this often difficult to photograph stone circle.

Mayburgh
Date Added: 19th Aug 2024
Site Type: Henge
Country: England (Cumbria)
Visited: Yes on 12th Aug 2024. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 4

Mayburgh submitted by wildtalents on 15th May 2024. The henge banks at Mayburgh were built up mainly using cobbles like those surrounding the one remaining megalith at the site. It's a really large structure and may have been a meeting point for many hundreds of people at a time. These days mainly sheep throng the henge. Image from spring 2023.

Log Text: Finally managed to visit after a number of visits called off due to poor weather. Incredible scale, especially considering it being built from cobbles taken from the river. Was once told it is made up of three colours of rock, from three different sources?

Long Meg submitted by JanF on 22nd Jun 2010. Long Meg (and her daughters) Stone Circle, Cumbria UK, is a magical place.. I watched the sunset on this special day in memory of my loved one.. Many others were here with me.. Complete strangers, but yet close friends..

Log Text: Has been on my list of sites to visit for some time, but always a bit far from my where I am in Cumbria or the Dales. What a great stone, complete with cup and ring marks (a first for me on anything other than exposed bedrock or stone repurposed in drystone walls). Standing stone (as a single object) feels well placed to cast a shadow across the landscape, but the subsequent stone circle seems quite odd as it flows down hill. An archaeologist friend of mine was lucky enough to be on a dig here in late 2022!

Kemp Howe submitted by nicoladidsbury on 29th Mar 2004. This is the remains of what must have been a beautiful stone circle. The stones are pink granite and have a lovely glow. Unfortunately the ambience has been shattered by the "wonderful" victorians, who built the railway on top of it.

Carn Euny Village submitted by AngieLake on 31st Oct 2004. This view over the Carn Euny Settlement was taken in two shots, which are cobbled together to give an idea of how it looked in March 2004. Bec-Zog's pic is similar to this.

Carn Euny Fogou submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Jan 2005. This shot shows the huge but low (4.5ft - 1.4m) SE-facing doorway of the Carn Euny 'Beehive Hut' underground chamber, with its own short passage leading into the fogou passage which runs SW/NE, (but snaking here with a flatter, more W/E run), just outside the doorway. It is thought that the Beehive Hut (chamber) was the first structure on this site, so that originally the eastern wall of the fogou passage would not have obstructed the view. It is possible that the sun was meant to shine down t...

Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jul 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 2

Four Parishes Rock submitted by Bladup on 4th Dec 2017. Four Parishes Rock, I believe the right hand side of this stone is a slightly different colour because it was once in the ground (for a long time), therefore making this a former Standing Stone. The weathering at the other end (left) is also going in the right direction if made when stood up. Ding Dong mine is visible on the right.

Boskednan Menhir 1 submitted by theCaptain on 14th Oct 2014. From my dim memories, I thought that the menhir was somewhere between the stone circle and the cairns along the path towards Men-an-Tol.
On the way back I notice indeed there is a stump and perhaps a fallen stone right on the pathway where I was expecting it, is it remains of a pair?
Pipers perhaps?
