Cahokia - Woodhenge submitted by drlou on 31st May 2005. ‘Woodhenge’, Cahokia, Illinois.
Few things are known about this timber circle at Cahokia. The evidence suggests that the original was constructed with 48 cedar posts around 1000AD and was probably painted with red ochre. From the central post 3 of the outer posts seem to line up to the equinoxes and the solstices.
