Anyway, this is the place to look. Photo taken in 2011. I had already failed to see it previously in 2008. You need to get there early for the sun.

Few things are known about this timber circle at Cahokia. The evidence suggests that the original was constructed with 48 cedar posts around 1000AD and was probably painted with red ochre. From the central post 3 of the outer posts seem to line up to the equinoxes and the solstices.

Log Text: An interesting Middle Woodland era site with a small on-site museum. It's a long walk around the place, and quite exhausting in the heat and humidity of August. There are still some mounds to be cleared of trees. It will look good when they've completed that project - the Eastern Citadel feature certainly needs clearing.
