Nether Largie South
Date Added: 3rd Jun 2024
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: Scotland (Argyll)
Visited: Yes on 3rd Jun 2024. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3

Nether Largie South submitted by Fairycake on 26th Sep 2020. Looking towards the cairn from the south with the large cist in the foreground. This is by far the biggest cist I have seen. There are several inserted into earlier monuments near to here, apart from this, showing these sites continued to have significance over a long period of time.

Log Text: All very new posh presentation showing through the ages.
If you like a romantic Lord of the rings type view of the Neolithic, with ‘ceremonial’ musical accompaniment you’ll love it. You may go away with the idea that all neolithic people did was stand around chanting and burning things.
If you ever went to the old museum you will miss the coracle, lithophone and swan bone flute.

Log Text: apparently the largest circle in Scotland according to the plaque by the gate. some large gaps? so maybe originally up to 19 stones? A pleasant enough place for a picnic stop.
