Log Text: forestry has been felled and replanted (native species i think) so its all more open. a very similar site to Tomnaverie: on a hill with some long distance views to south and west. some impressively large stones. another banked kerbed circle. the kerb is a mixture of pink granite and white stones. must have looked striking when first built.

Log Text: a lovely little 6 stone ring, that really demonstrates that the neolithic/bronze age was not all about massive fancy sites involving lots of people. the small sites emphasise the personal, a small group of people enacting possibly the same belief system as elsewhere. The stone hexagon at Fancarl top is a fantastic example of a 6 stoner, the most basic of the form, but the spectacular location gives it gravitas. A larger earthfast plus 5 added stones, three stones are cubic blocks. South is dominated by the hills and crags of Simon seat, and Burnstall fell. Looking west you can see the hillsides of Dumpit stone ring and Yarnbury henge 3 1/2 miles away.

Log Text: i parked up the road in an empty farm yard. it's about a km walk from there, along an old track (don't block this). no gates. the site is more overgrown than old photos, but someone cuts the grass now and then. Take care as it is lumpy stones under the long grass. The stones seem to be local rock, as i saw several red granite, quartz and mica encrusted stones in the field walls and clearance dumps. quite an exotic feel.

the stones are verging on monumental. a red granite west and quartz east. the west flanker is quartz and the recumbent's top is a fat quartz vein. other stones are notable for their 'pointy' ness.
