D31 Exloo submitted by Martin_L on 27th Aug 2010. Pole aerial of the partly restored 4-capstone passage-grave showing its groundplan. The assumed positions of two missing chamber orthostats and two passage orthostats are marked by concrete-implements. The remains of the chamber are still surrounded by significant remains of the covering barrow.
When Professor van Giffen examined the site only the orthostats of fallen capstone C3 were preserved in situ.

Date Added: 25th Jun 2012
Site Type: Passage Grave
Country: Netherlands (Drenthe)
Visited: Would like to visit

D30 Exloo submitted by Martin_L on 27th Jul 2010. The site viewed from the SW.
Chamber length 7,3m (clear 6m)
Width varies from 3m to 3,4m (clear 2m)
The chamber is deeply embedded into the sandy ground. All orthostats were (and still are) preserved in situ when van Giffen examined the site in the early 20th century. Capstones C1 (counting from the North) and C2 were robbed, C3 was fallen and C4 in situ. Obviously C3 was placed back on its orthostats and C2 probably was replaced. The passage has preserved one pair of orthostats.

Go out of Emmen on the Odoorn road into the suburb of Emmermeer and on the side of the road is this wonderful monument. Hundreds of motorists must pass it every day.

D46 Angelslo submitted by Martin_L on 9th Aug 2010. Oblique aerial from the West. When Prof. van Giffen examined this massive 9,5m x 3,5m chamber in the early 20th century the orthostats were still in situ except for N2, but the capstones were scattered around. One capstone is missing and one is only partly preserved (now used as C1). C2 shows tool-marks from historic destruction attempts. Van Giffen assumed the entrance between orthostats S3 and S4. The position is marked "E". No traces left of a possible passage or an enclosure.
