Las Peñezuelas
Date Added: 25th Jun 2012
Site Type: Passage Grave
Country: Spain (Castilla y León)
Visited: Would like to visit
Las Peñezuelas submitted by ernar on 18th Sep 2005. Despite the over-restoration, the Passage Grave of “Las Peñezuelas” is still a treat due to the sheer size of the chamber’s orthostats. Sadly, agricultural activity has destroyed what remained of the tumulus, and the corridor has almost disappeared due to an earthen track built beside the Megalith. Excavations have yielded several Neolithic elements including carvers and arrow points.

Pedra da Arca (Malpica) submitted by Condros on 12th Nov 2003. In Galicia, Spain, there are some incredible references to this tomb. It lies close to an ancient pathway, and is reputed to be the tomb of "Orca Bella" the Galician equivalent of the Irish war goddesses the "Morrigan",Christian legends, depict her as a horrible demon like woman-who snares saintly men into her tomb, drawing the capstone over them, older faiths show her as a woman carrying a child in one hand and a huge capstone in the other, and being a loving and nurturing mother, responsible fo...

Dolmen de Axeitos submitted by ernar on 30th Sep 2004. The Dolmen de Axeitos is one of the most beautiful portal tombs in Galicia. In this case, the reforested eucaliptus shiled the site from the populated surroundings. Note to the editor: This picture should be linked with the 'Axeitos' Dolmen in Spain. Which in turn should be allocated to Galicia. Warm Regards Jorge aka Ernar

Stoney Littleton submitted by TheCaptain on 18th Mar 2005. Stoney Littleton barrow viewed from the west.
Its a cracking little barrow, with the most wonderful passage and chambers inside, and the powers that be have even left a decent sized area around it free of any farming activity. A lovely sunny day, but some of the walk to the barrow was horrendously muddy.
The fields around the barrow had recently been ploughed, a crop of beet of some sort having been the last grown. While walking back after my visit, I found a bit of the lovely golden colou...
