Temehea Tohua submitted by DrewParsons on 13th Jul 2012. Copy of a picture by Pierre Loti in 1872 of Vaekehu who was the Chieftainess and queen who reunited the Taiohae through marriage. This site was her home. The Marquesas Islands have been settled by Polynesians since around 200 BC.

The alignments stretch across the countyside like a battleground of soldiers. The site is close to the sea and there is a theory that the statues were some sort of magical deterrent to invaders.

On road D57 north of Propriano
Filitosa, the mysterious, and most celebrated prehistoric site on Corsica. There are six menhir statues aligned on the central monument, with steps leading up to the highest point. This enclosure is thought to have been a temple. The statues have carved human faces, wearing helmets and some carry weapons. In fact some of the statues are very phallic, and its suggested they may have been used to encourage fertility of the land.
