Long Bredy Bank Barrow

Long Bredy Bank Barrow submitted by JimChampion on 25th Apr 2005. April 2005. A composite view of the bank barrow, looking south from the field gate (standing on the gatepost to get a better view). The curvature of the appropriately named Long Barrow Hill means that it is difficult to see the barrow from this close distance. The break in the bank is clearly visible, occurring about a third of the way along the barrows 200m length.

Chestnuts

Chestnuts submitted by enkidu41 on 8th Apr 2004. The stones are massive (the 2 capstones and some uprights weigh up to 10 tons) and once formed a rectangular chamber 12' long and 7' high entered through a facade of sarsen stones. The owner will suggest you try dowsing rods. Do so, because you will be able to trace out the full extent of the chamber and long gone mound. TQ 652 592

Hambledon Hill hillfort submitted by JimChampion on 10th Jan 2005. December 2002. Looking towards the south at the impressive west-facing flank of Hambledon hill. The ramparts are clearly visible in this picture, and the grazing sheep give a sense of scale. The ramparts in the foreground drop away sharply - presumably as the result of a landslip.

Seven Barrows (Hampshire) submitted by wiztwas on 29th Aug 2005. Only four barrows that can be seen from the north bound A34. The first and biggest is spoilt by not only the road noise, but also the high voltage powerlines crackling overhead. The other three barrows can not be seen from this side. You can see one of the others, on the other side of the road, from the road.

White Island

White Island submitted by paulcall on 1st Dec 2006. A view of White island from Top Rock Carn on St Martins, showing the hazardous isthmus between the two. Very low tides would be needed to get on and off the island to give enough to time to see the monuments which are mainly at the far end.

Samson, South Hill submitted by Thorgrim on 2nd Jul 2003. The now uninhabited island of Samson contains dozens of entrance graves and cairns. This entrance grave is the finest and it overlooks the flats where stone walls are uncovered at low tide. The Scilly Islands were just one island in Roman times (with the exception of Agnes and Annet. The drowned land has often been seen as the Lost Land of Lyonesse.
