Knocknakilla submitted by Johnny on 21st Jun 2002. Knocknakilla Megalithic Complex, Co. Cork (W297 841):
On the NW slopes of Musherabeg Mountain, Knocknakilla, the "stone of the church", is almost a twin to the megalithic complex at Kealkil (cf): both sites consist of a five-stone ring, a pair of standing stones and a radial cairn. Of the two pillar stones, one is now prostrate the other being the dominant feature in the complex standing 3.7m in height. The stones would originally have been just over 3.5m apart and aligned NNE-SSW....

Log Text: About a mile and a half walk from the nearest public road on a good forest track but the last 200 metres are a real battle with nature as the circle is located quite deep in a conifer plantation with no easy route in.
Big slice of imagination required as the conifers block any view of the surrounding landscape. It makes for a very picturesque seeing though. I liked it.
