Long Stone (Minchinhampton)
Date Added: 25th Oct 2020
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Would like to visit
Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...

Offa's Dyke at Tidenham Chase
Date Added: 30th Oct 2020
Site Type: Misc. Earthwork
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 29th Oct 2020

Offa's Dyke at Tidenham Chase submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Apr 2022. A walk up Offas Dyke from Chepstow to Brockweir, and not hammering down with rain this time, so I got a few snaps. The banks are not built as big as further north, but there is a lot of stone in the construction here, looking more like a wall in places.

The Ancient Barrow Well, St. Briavel's
Date Added: 7th Dec 2020
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Nov 2020. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

The Ancient Barrow Well, St. Briavel's submitted by Cunningwoman on 17th Jun 2019. This is Barrow Well, in Barrow Lane, St Briavel's in Glos. It is the remains of an ancient well that was on this site. Today there is no water in it but the ground around it is quite wet and soggy- which might suggest the spring is still there. There is a plaque, that declares the well to be the site of King Johns water- used for him - whilst he was staying in the near by castle... perhaps in his beer. Written on the plaque is 'Barrow water and Worral wheat...'. However, I feel the stone is more...
