High on Llangynidir mountain, Carreg Waen Llech is an attractive standing stone sited in an area commanding impressive views of the Black Mountains. The stone is over six feet in height and has attractive and unusual pitting on its east and west faces.

This is the view from the South East, on a bearing of approx. 300 degrees North West, along the very flat and dead vertical "smiley"faced Northern flank. If someone hadn't thoughtfully planted a tree in the way you would be able to see that this stone is aligned on the top of Myarth hill (not the summit), beyond this the line goes to Bwllch standing stone, out of site from here. Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...

Log Text: The hedge has been allowed to grow completely around the stones so that only the very tip of the tallest is now showing. See photograph. Impossible to see from the main road but walked a little way up the minor road where there is a gap in the hedge for a new build property and was able to zoom in with the camera.
