King's Quoit, Manorbier
Date Added: 16th Mar 2025
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Would like to visit

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by sem on 25th Aug 2004. Looking SW,the view here is outstanding. This must have been a very sought after plot of Neolithic real-estate.It is set in a hollow on the cliffside lined with stones bigger than any but the capstone.Children & Nash suggest "no covering mound would have existed because the ledge.....is far too narrow." Log Text: Woodhenge Pömmelte called The German Stonehenge because “ it may be comparable to other monuments, such as the world-famous Stonehenge in the South of England”.
However it is a woodhenge not a stone one, so it should be compared to the much less famous Woodhenge with much less importance in the South of England, situated some miles from Stonehenge.
Maybe its less importance is the reason that the leading archeologists of Pömmelte did not choose it for comparison or they did not know its existence .
While in the English Woodhenge - very wisely - the ancient wood columns were replaced with only short and simply wood columns, in Pömmelte they tried to built something bizarre, with colored and carved columns plus the built - not reconstructed - gates. All of it has nothing to do with the proven past. Like in Ireland the outside of Newgrange. But there at least for protection and only for outside. Because of it the ambiance is much more worse than ordinary.
They mentioned that this circle may be after the NEBRA SKY DISK, what is ridiculous, it’s only purpose is the marketing as the Nebraska Sky Disk - can be seen in Halle Museum not so far - is the first known object representing the sun, moon, horizon, Milky Way and cosmos with 32 stars.
Last but not least, there is a second circle 1.4 km from this site, but nothing is visible as it was not so important to dig out. Or in the case of digging out, they could be compared to each other not to Stonehenge.
In the small museum not so far from the site - mentioned in the article - has very few and limited source concerning this site.
However the Halle museum - where the unique Nebra Sky Disc can be visited - is one of the best and most beautiful museum in Europe, worth visiting. But one full day is hardly enough !

In the past, the Kivik Grave was called “Bredarör”, the broad cairn, and the tomb is broad, 75m in diameter. It has probably never been much higher than the stone cist. In the bottom corner of the picture can be seen the slabs which were depicted in 1756. Thanks to it, we know what was shown on the slab (1) that disappeared.
Just for comparison, the largest of the so-called Cumanian mounds of Central Europe, and the highest prehistoric mound in Hungary has a heigh...

Késő bronzkori temetkezési hely.
A Kárpát medencében elsősorban az Alföldön, azon belül is főként a Tiszántúlon a késő rézkortól akkora bronzkorig a kelet-európai eredetű Jamnaja-kultúra (gödörsíros kurgánok népe) meghatározó szerepet játszott. Az ő emlékeik amíg ma is ezerszámra megtalálható halomsírok.
