Hathor evolved from ishtar, to Astarte, to Ashtoreth and finaly to Hathor on the way from Sumer to Egypt, but the Phoenecias became steadily more influenced by the Egyptians on account of heavy trading activity. Object in the Louvre in Paris.

Colossi of Memnon submitted by AlexHunger on 4th Jan 2006. Large colosal statues of Amenhotep III (Father of Akhenaten). They were originaly carved out of one block but suffered greatly during the 27 BCE earthquake which leveled the Palace of Amenhotep II behind them and damaged many other antiquities in Egypt. Memnon was a charachter in Homer's Illiad. The Romans though it was amusing to rename the colossi as one of them emited a sighing sound at sunrise on account of air excaping from a fissure, which reminded them of this myth.

Log Text: Set in cork oak groves, in lovely setting and views over surrounding country. Quite a long bumpy drive over unmade track.Car park is a few hundred yards away. Some stones have faint engravings.

It has scenes from the life of Christ and other biblical episodes. Also, a panel shows St Ciaran founding the first section of his monastery - which is represented by a tree.
