Log Text: Supposedly the 'cathedral' of dolmens, the Dolmen de Dombate was looking very sad when visited in 2008. 'Protected' by wooden shutters and concrete posts, it was under cover in a makeshift marquee.
I believe things are now much improved, with visitor centre and interpretation etc., but for charm and atmosphere, there are much better sites in Galicia

Date Added: 8th May 2022
Site Type: Broch or Nuraghe
Country: Scotland (Isle of Lewis)
Visited: Yes on 8th May 2022. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 4

Dun Carloway submitted by swatson on 28th Aug 2004. This impressive Broch is near Carloway in the west of the Island of Lewis. Sadly time did not permit detailed exploration but that's something to look forward to at a later date. There is enough of this tower standing to indicate the method and the superb workmanship involved in it's construction.

Log Text: The broch is covered in scaffolding, and the interior not accessible. Signs say ‘awaiting restoration’ but it looks like a long wait. The best view is from the south, where much of the scaffolding is hidden

The site was discovered in 1988 when anomalies showed up on the aerial photography. The content of the tumulus had drifted into the henge like ditch and processional way suroounding the mound and leading South. The grave in the middle was empty, but artifacts, in particular a complete life sized limestone statue were found in two other graves within the ditch. The mound was restored afterwards.
