Aswan Broken Obelisk
Date Added: 3rd Jul 2013
Site Type: Ancient Mine, Quarry or other Industry
Country: Egypt
Visited: Yes on 3rd Mar 2003. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 5 Access 4

Aswan Broken Obelisk submitted by andyb456 on 25th Feb 2005. The obelisk was to have been the largest madmade stone object in existence. The red granite quarries of Aswan were used for many statues and colossi and the 'footprints' of these can be seen all over this quarry. Stone tools left behind has given a valuable insight in to their methods. Sadly, it was abandoned when a crack appeared. Oops, hope they didn't waste too much time!
