Anderlingen Steinkistengrab (Hannover)

Anderlingen Steinkistengrab (Hannover) submitted by JimChampion on 14th Jul 2007. A reconstructed dolmen outside the Niedersächsischen Landesmuseum, central Hannover. It was originally discovered during sand extraction near Anderlingen, and moved here for public display. It was originally covered by an earth mound, 25 metres in diameter and 2 metres high. It is most famous for containing a stone with three human figures carved into it - Anderlingen's coat of arms features a representation of this carved stone.

Alexander Keiller Museum

Site Type: Museum Country: England (Wiltshire)

Alexander Keiller Museum

Alexander Keiller Museum submitted by JimChampion on 31st Dec 2008. The door to the Barn Gallery at Avebury. The barn is kept very cool in order to preserve the structure of the 17th century building, so it only houses a few archaeological exhibits - according to the NT leaflet it 'tells the story of the landscape through a fully interactive display'. Most of the archaeology collection is in the nearby Stables Gallery. Both are covered by the same admission ticket, unless you are a member of the National Trust (in which case both galleries are free).

Site Type: Hillfort Country: England (Dorset)

Abbotsbury Castle

Abbotsbury Castle submitted by JimChampion on 1st Jan 2005. December 2004. Looking east from the trig point on top of Abbotsbury hillfort. The hillfort's round tumulus is in the centre of the picture, with a person for scale. At a height of 215m above sea-level you get an impressive view of the surroundings: it is obvious why this site was chosen for a hillfort.
