Le chaos de Roquebert

Le chaos de Roquebert submitted by TheCaptain on 18th Jan 2011. Les Trois Cromlechs. I wasn't quite sure what to make of these. There are three massive stones (probably up to 7 metres high) within about 20 metres of each other looking for all the world like they have been stood upright surrounded by lots and lots of other stones.

Le Cleray

Le Cleray submitted by TheCaptain on 30th Jun 2010. It is indeed about 4 metres tall, almost 3 metres wide at the bottom, and a metre thick. It has a little sign stating it is an ancient monument, and that the area around here has been lived in for millennia.

Le Grand Dolmen de Bagneux

Le Grand Dolmen de Bagneux submitted by greywether on 1st Jul 2005. Site in Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49 Some statistics: 17.3m long x 5.4m max wide x 3.1m high. The antechamber adds another 4m to the length. It is covered with four capstones the largest of which is 7.6m long and weighs 86 tons. The large overlapping backstone is 7.3m long. Truly massive and worth the price of admission. You don't (or didn't) have to eat at the cafe to see it but it adds to the fun.

Le Petit Ménec

Le Petit Ménec submitted by ermine on 6th Aug 2004. Confusingly, Petit-Menéc is in fact at the opposite, eastern end of the alignments to le Menéc village at the western end. You need to turn left onto the D186 main road after continuing from Kerlescan. After about 250m turn right into a minor road going past a forest, there is a clearing where you can park after about 400m. The menhirs are in the forest on your right, arranged in a gentle curve. You don't get the same clear overview of the alignments since the view is obscured by the trees, bu...
